57-Year- Old Houston Man Convicted Of First Degree RAP

A Houston, Texas jury took just two hours after deliberations to convict Sam Taylor, a 57-year-old Houston man, of the crime of First Degree RAP. Taylor had been charged with breaking into the home of 35-year old Julie Torrington on the night of Saturday, October 31, 2009 and assaulting her with his voice with a rap song.

Declining to be seen on camera, Ms. Torrington says, “I begged and pleaded with him to no end, to please not assault me in this brutal manner, but my cries fell on deaf ears. And when I could no longer stand it, I passed out from his sheer noise level alone.”

After the verdict was read, Judge James Simmons had some harsh words of his own for Taylor, a newly convicted felon.

“Never in all my days have I understood why a man of your age will assault a young woman in the horrible crime of RAP when she is, obviously, young enough to be your child. Have you no shame, Sir? Have you not one shred of decency? Now, while I am not making an excuse for younger men, but it is far easier to understand how and why a young man tends to become a rapper, given his youth, raging hormones, and young age. But you, Sir! A man of your age and standing in the community. Why, it is just hard to imagine. And, you should also know that had the jury not found you guilty, I am sure I would have been forced from community pressure to make a landmark decision in setting a legal precedent by putting you behind bars for, at least, 375 years. And, on second thought, a 375-year period for each wrong note that your victim even thought she imagined.”

Sentencing for Taylor is set for March, 2010.
